Can anyone say how much this set of state of the art traffic lights cost to install at Watford Junction?

I'd like to say the winner of our competition gets a share of the £200,000 it cost to install these lights. He is a keen cyclist from Hertford and he takes a great interest in transport matters. He cannot have his prize money because its been spent in such a daft way.
Lights in front of Watford JunctionUncontrolled crossing
Most weekday evenings the traffic in front of Watford Junction is solid. After a week of traffic jams across Watford caused by the partial closure of the ring road, they finally turned this set off on 6 May 2004.

Hey presto! No traffic!!!?!

Motorists enjoy it while you can, creating traffic jams appears to be the official policy at County Hall and  Watford Town Hall and so I am sure there will be lots more traffic lights in Watford soon. Watford Council's got an official policy too, they want this kind of silliness right the way across Watford. The only problem is neither seem to have taken the views of you the public to heart.

Thank you Mystery Councillor, for your kind offer of help. After a bit of gentle prodding HertsHighways staff gave me really good information.

Oh, and the Mayor is a fan too.

Here are some things to do while you are waiting for the big cover up to end:

Traffic Light Game
Snack-time? Why not eat a healthy Traffic Light sandwich?
Sweet tooth? You can do no better than to go to Mrs Browns for a Traffic Light Lolly.
Buy Recycled Traffic Light Dishes at our online Shop
Local democracy in action or Cruel Experiment? You decide! Send in your reply today and you might even make it into the hall of fame on the right.
Relax in the beautiful Herts/Bucks border by the side of Chenies Pond home of great cricket
There were some who replied but couldn't quite stick to the subject
A favourite tactic of those who are unclear of their own point of view. If they cannot hold their attention on your concerns, are you sure they have your best interests at heart?
Stop sign

This is the normal situation. Expect to see traffic snarled up, long queues, buses unable to approach or depart from the bus stands easily.

<<We will bring you these pictures as soon as the covers come off, and the whole of Watford jams up again.>>

New road markings

You didn't really expect they would be turned on again before June 10th elections did you?

One way traffic
Various Councillors at both Borough and County level prefer to keep quiet. They know that the current approach is failing and that they become "tainted" by that failure if they are seen to be too close to unpopular measures. The consequence of electing this type of politician is that very poor plans and decisions are made. Make sure its you who tells your politician what your view is, and not the other way round.

Long Delays Ahead

Sign of the week

Send in your pictures of wonky signs and you might win our special prize of a self-supporting uncontrolled crossing sign.
Rules: Signs can be located anywhere in and around Watford, but you are not allowed to have smashed them up yourself.

What can I see?"Hmm, I wonder if we should be trying to build some sort of cross-party consensus?"
"Maybe the people at the town hall are just plain bonkers!"

Click on the wizard image if you want to find out how difficult it was for one ordinary citizen to take part in a local issue.

Traffic Light of the Week

Once again Traffic Light of the Week has been won by Niff. This is his second project for the West Herts College distance learning course of Traffic Light Construction. Niff believes he can see "little green men" now, which perhaps shows how hard he has been studying. The whole piece is entitled "Sunset on the whole traffic management fiasco".
Rules: Traffic Lights must be located in the Central Green Zone. You do not have to make your own lights to enter, but more weight is given to Watford citizens who are home traffic light constructors.
